Shahjahanbad Museum

The restoration project at Chandni Chowk’s Shahjahanbad Museum is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of the region’s cultural heritage. The museum’s century-old structure serves as a magnificent testament to the architectural splendor of Chandni Chowk. Through its well-designed sections, the museum offers an immersive experience that showcases the diverse history and traditions of the area.
The museum is divided into several sections, each representing a unique facet of Chandni Chowk’s rich heritage. These sections provide an overview of Old Delhi, featuring intricate doors and highlighting the various modes of transportation that characterize Chandni Chowk. They also showcase the vibrant colors and aromatic spices of the Khari Baoli spice market. Visitors can partake in the experience of the iconic Red Fort, explore the religious diversity prevalent in Chandni Chowk, witness a dedicated display on kite flying, marvel at a replica of the Clock Tower (Ghantaghar), and explore rooms depicting the architectural styles of Chandni Chowk’s havelis. Additionally, there is a literature room celebrating the area’s poets, a space dedicated to handicrafts, and a cafeteria offering local delicacies.
Overall, the Shahjahanbad Museum aims to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the area, providing a captivating experience for visitors while addressing the logistical challenges involved.
