Intersekt Tiles Showroom

The project transformed one of two identical buildings, previously used as warehouses for over 15 years, into a tile showroom, office and experience centre. The scope extended across the façade, landscape and interiors, while extensive structural strengthening—including micro-concreting, epoxy grouting, FRP wraps and additional columns—prepared the heavily loaded structure for its new life.

With three generations of experience in the tile industry, the client envisioned the showroom as a museum of tiles rather than a conventional retail space. The design therefore explores the material beyond its familiar role as a surface finish, testing its application across floors, walls, ceilings, hanging installations, artefacts, sculptures, furniture and lighting. The space becomes both a display and an educational experience, demonstrating tiles as a versatile, economical, maintainable and sustainable alternative to natural stone.

The façade draws from the natural weathering of stone, expressed through layered and juxtaposed volumes clad in large-format 8 ft × 4 ft slim tiles. A sharply articulated corner tests the material through extreme angles and joints, while a 6 ft × 8 ft glass box projects above the entrance as a sculptural connection between exterior and interior. This language continues into the landscape through abstract tiled blocks, water-jet-cut patterns, grass inlays, sculptures, a water body and integrated seating.

Inside, a portion of the existing RCC slab was removed to create a double-height arrival space, visually connecting the two showroom levels. Large suspended lights, an oversized tile-clad reception desk and a backlit concept sketch establish the project's identity from the entrance.
